Want to know what it is like to be really really fat? Well that is exactly what the star of Real Housewives of New Jersey, Melissa Gorga wanted to know and that is why she agreed to put on a specially made fat suit for the TV show Entertainment Tonight.

Melissa did not just wear any fat suit but instead underwent hours of professional makeup and temporary plastic grafting on her face to make her really look like an extremely obese person. She said that she wanted to highlight the discrimination that very overweight people suffer and with the use of hidden cameras she was able to show the rude comments that fat people have to deal with every day. The results of the fat makeover were in fact incredibly realistic and no one suspected for a moment that she was actually wearing a fat suit. Melissa who normally weighs only 115 lbs struggled to walk around and do normal things like getting into a taxi.
Probably the most revealing part of the show was when she went into a restaurant and ordered a burger. Instead of just being left alone to eat her meal she was subjected to abusive comments which were easily audible to her.
There is a perception among some people that just because a person is fat they are open to being abused and ridiculed in public. This TV program shows the lack of respect to basic human dignity that overweight people have to face every day.
At Ukmedix News we have often argued that being overweight is not just a physical problem but comes with a huge psychological cost. Anybody who had to suffer the sort of abuse that Melissa Gorga went through when wearing her fat suit would definitely be psychologically scarred after some time. Even Melissa admitted that she suffered from very low self esteem when she was wearing her fat suit. We encourage people to lose weight at Ukmedix News not just because they will be physically healthier but because so many overweight people suffer from psychological issues due to the abuse they get.
Good on you Melissa Gorga for increasing awareness of obesity discrimination.
