the Mediterranean diet improves the working of blood vessels

We have revealed quite a bit of research on the Mediterranean diet at Ukmedix News and specifically research which shows how people who follow it are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and general dementia as they get older. New research however shows that following the Mediterranean diet could even be a remedy for depression.

Mediterranean Diet Proven To Be An Anti Depressant

The research which was announced in the Archives of General Psychiatry shows that because the Mediterranean diet improves the working of blood vessels, reduces the oxidative damage and decreases inflammation the chances of depression are significantly lowered. In fact they claim that participants in a clinical study of 10,000 volunteers showed that those following the Mediterranean diet had a thirty percent lower chance of suffering from depressive symptoms.

At Ukmedix News we have our own theory as to why the Mediterranean diet works so well for reducing depression and it centres around the fact that eating in the Mediterranean way is so much more exciting and pleasurable than following a low fat, restrictive and boring diet. Eating is one of the great pleasures in life and being on a boring diet is bound to make you feel depressed and unloved. So many people associate food with emotion and affection and therefore restricting it to a few lettuce leaves and bland food is bound to make you feel low.

The whole concept of a diet is depressing and so you must be proactive about what you eat, so introduce lots of variables and allow yourself a few treats every now and again. If you are person who hates dieting, loves food and needs to lose weight following a Mediterranean diet would be perfect for you.

The Mediterranean diet has also been shown to lower the chances of heart disease and also boost longevity.
