Yup, it’s the Mediterranean diet again! Yet again scientists have come to the conclusion that eating lots of fish, fruit and veg will lower your chances of getting ill in a number of ways. The researchers from Columbia University Medical Center based in New York saw that people following the Mediterranean diet had a much smaller chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease. They also noted that exercise impacted significantly on reducing the risk of this dehabilitating condition by as much as 60 percent and said that their research was the first time that a Mediterranean diet had been evaluated concurrently with exercise to examine the affect on Alzheimer’s disease.

At Ukmedix News we have published practically all the research there is on the Mediterranean diet and it all points to healthy hearts, longevity, lower rates of dementia, good eyesight and even a good sex life! Another thing about the Mediterranean diet is that it is tasty because it contains a lot of natural fat and has a substantial variety.
We have also seen how people who have failed to lose weight manage to do so when they eat in the Mediterranean way and the reason is because the variety makes sure that they do not get bored. Boring and dull eating patterns are one of the biggest reasons why individuals fail to stick to healthy diets.
Mediterranean diets do not have the complete aversion to carbohydrates which so many modern fad diets have. A lack of carbohydrates can leave you feeling rundown and tired all the time which saps your motivation to continue eating and exercising healthily.
This research which was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA) and financed by the National Institute on Aging will come as no surprise to European nutritionists who have seen much lower levels of dementia illnesses in Mediterranean regions.
