The dangers of working at McDonalds have been confirmed by a Brazilian judge who has awarded a $17,500 compensation package to a former employee who claimed that his job made him put on 65 lbs in weight over the 12 years that he worked there. The 32 year-old man who worked at McDonalds in Porto Allegre, Brazil sued the company because he said as part of his job he was required to taste the food and this had meant that over the years his weight had gone up to 231 lbs.

The presiding Judge Joao Filho seemed to agree with him in that his excessive consumption of burgers, fries and milk shakes was an occupational hazard and should be compensated for. He did nevertheless rule that McDonalds could file an appeal against the judgment.
The plaintiff explained that McDonalds had a policy of using undercover customers to constantly check up on restaurants and make reports on the quality of the food. Because of this he said that he had to always keep on tasting food himself to make sure that the standard was good, and coupled with the fact that he was given the perk of free lunches of whatever he wanted he ended up obese.
At Ukmedix News, while we feel sorry for this man we can not help thinking that maybe he is being a little bit opportunistic in blaming his obesity on his work. Unfortunately obesity is often a symptom of not taking responsibility for what you eat, and obese people always have excuses for the way they are. In fact, it is pretty likely that this man would have become obese irrespective of where he worked.
There are many slim managers of McDonalds restaurants who also have to take part in tasting exercises and if they can manage to stay in shape there is no reason why all McDonalds managers can't.
