McDonalds And Burger King In New York Forced To Display Calorie Counts

At Ukmedix News we think that people deserve to know the truth

The good news from New York is that a Federal Appeals Court has confirmed regulations in New York City which require certain chain restaurants to advertise the calorie counts of individual items on their menus and menu boards outside their premises. Some of the restaurants concerned who formed the group called the New York State Restaurant Association had instituted legal action against the New York City Board of Health saying that these strict rules on food labeling were infringing on ‘free speech rights’. The chain restaurants concerned included McDonald’s and Burger King.

The legal wrangling regarding the regulations ordering the listing of calorie counts on restaurant menu boards has been going on since December 2006 and has been debated continuously. The New York City Board of Health did make concessions in January 2008 and said that only restaurants with fifteen or more establishments in America where required to list the calorie content “clearly and conspicuously” and in “close proximity” to the item on the menu.

New York City has been fighting hard to get these regulations enforced and has been issuing fines for those who do not comply. The New York State Restaurant Association can still appeal the case but will now have to go to the U.S. Supreme Court.

At Ukmedix News we think that people deserve to know the truth about what they are eating and if all restaurants are required by law to display calorie counts this will greatly help those who want to watch their weight to make the right food choices when they eat out. These rules will also create an environment where restaurants will compete with each other to have the lowest calorie but tasty meals on their menus.

Many people would not eat certain items on the menus of McDonald’s and Burger King if they really knew how many calories they contained and it is only right that in this information age we know exactly what we are eating.

Brilliant to enforce the display of calorie counts, not only will it help those who want to make the right food choices when they eat, it will also teach children to calculate what they are putting into their mouths, at a young age as they will be taught to understand.

Awesome it’s important for consumers to have real knowledge of what they are really eating, unfortunately, the majority of information we find in food levels isn’t acquired or ture.

People don’t know how interpreted the information given in food levels and that is one of the reasons why some diets don’t work.

The New York State Restaurant Association was formed in 1935 by independent restaurants operating in New York City.
