The Malaysian government has stepped up its campaign to rid the nation of dangerous and fake herbal medications which claim to have an affect on weight loss. The Malaysian Health Ministry is especially concerned about the fact that so many of the so called traditional medications are doctored with harmful chemicals and compounds.

The majority of these fake medications use tampered with versions of the sibutramine compound which is the key ingredient in the weight loss drug Reductil. There’s nothing wrong with sibutramine except that when it is made in a substandard factory and its chemical composition is changed intentionally or unintentionally it may become extremely dangerous.
The weight loss drug Reductil was tested for many years and has full approval from the Food & Drug Administration in America and also the European Medicine Authority to be sold as a prescription medication. These so called weight loss tablets sold in the Far East have not been subjected to the same scrutiny and have been known to cause severe illness and even death in some cases.
In Malaysia the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau said that they would be making sure that all traditional, natural and herbal medicines for weight loss were registered properly and that they will be tested to make sure that they were made from natural or herbal ingredients. They also warned that any manufacturers found to have been adding dangerous chemicals to their weight loss products would immediately lose their licences to manufacture any medicines in Malaysia.
Ukmedix News supports this initiative from the Malaysian government and hopes that other Asian nations will also take steps to eradicate the dangerous products from the market. These fake weight loss products are sold widely on the internet and even sometimes in health shops in the United Kingdom when shop owners are unaware of their dangerous contents.
