The manufacturers of a new diet medication claim that it could be two times more effective than Reductil or Xenical! The drug which is called liraglutide and which is already used by diabetics is manufactured by Novo Nordisk, a company in Denmark.

At present Novo Nordisk is in the process of conducting large clinical trials involving around 5,000 obese men and women. The drug is said to not only make you shed weight but also lowers your blood pressure, increases the amount of beneficial cholesterol and even cures diabetes in some cases. Reports issued by the company say that some of the volunteers say that it even makes them feel good about themselves.
Well, it all sounds very hopeful and positive however we'd like to warn you that We've been here before! Ukmedix News has written about many new weight loss medications which despite promising starts ended up in the dust bin after clinical trials showed that they didn't really work.
We're not saying that liraglutide doesn't work, and in fact so far the results looks fantastic but people who are waiting for the wonder drug to help them lose weight easily shouldn't bank all their hopes on it. In any case the clinical trials are expected to take another 3 years and therefore it is unlikely to make it to the market for another year after that.
In one set of clinical trials those men and women who took liraglutide tended to lose an average of one and a half stone over six months which is twice as much as volunteers who were given the prescription weight loss drug Xenical.
It was also observed that over ? of those given a high dose of the liraglutide lost a minimum of ten percent of their body weight. If it can be proven in large-scale trials that liraglutide is safe as well as effective it could help to cure the chronic obesity the problem that the United Kingdom is dealing with.
Ukmedix News will be looking out for more news and updates on liraglutide.
