Jamie Oliver, the famous chef is determined not to give up with his campaign to get the United Kingdom eating properly and healthy. He will be soon addressing government ministers at a Health Committee inquiry which will be looking into health problems related to diet all over the country. Jamie Oliver will be advising on how to improve the United Kingdom’s diet and he has published a special manifesto which he says will help to tackle the chronic crisis of obesity.

One of his most far reaching proposals involves the government putting money aside to teach children and adults how to cook healthily. He said that government funded “food centres” should be set up in every single British town to provide free nutritional and dietary advice. Jamie Oliver is not treating this campaign purely with ideas but has come up with facts and figures which show that his ideas even make financial sense in the long term.
Something which we have been highlighting at Ukmedix News is that by investing in public health campaigns the government can save money in the long term by reduced health care costs. He explained that obesity was already costing the National Health Service more than the problem of smoking. He quoted the figures of £4.2 billion for treating obesity related illnesses compared to only £2.7 billion for smoking related illnesses.
Jamie Oliver believes that education is the key and that young mothers need to be taught how to cook and taught a basic knowledge of what is nutritious and what is not. He warned that chronic obesity would overrun the United Kingdom within the next ten years if something was not done quickly about it now. Other research which we have studied at Ukmedix News shows the importance of teaching children when they are young what is good for them to eat and to instil good eating patterns at an early age because they will stick to them for the rest of their lives.
