Poor old Jaime Oliver just can’t get America to believe in his healthy eating crusade. After facing an uphill battle in Huntington, West Virginia which has been named America’s most obese city he was told by David Letterman on his famous chat show that he was wasting his time and that Americans would never change their eating habits.
At one point in the Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution TV series he actually cries tears of sheer frustration when all the obese people around him fail to understand that they are killing themselves slowly with their unhealthy diets.
In another scene Jamie explains to an obese and desperate mother that she is going to kill her children if she carries on feeding them the same junk. Despite the fact that her children are bullied at school for being overweight and obese she feels helpless to do anything about it.
In another shocking scene a school child looks at a string of tomatoes and thinks that they are potatoes highlighting of complete lack of knowledge when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetables.
One of the biggest problems that Jamie Oliver faces in America is that nobody likes to be preached at by foreigners and there is a definite feeling that the Englishman coming over to tell them what their problems are is patronising and unwanted. Jamie talks about change but sometimes fails to inspire the crowd with his healthy eating message.
You really get the feeling that some of them want to tell him to go back home and mind his own business. Even David Letterman told him that he didn’t stand a chance and that diet pills were the only way forward to help obese Americans.
Whatever the case Jamie Oliver’s New TV series shows that America has a chronic obesity problem which is not only caused by the fact that there is so much junk food around but also because attitudes to changing eating habits are so ingrained.
If supposedly educated individuals like David Letterman won’t support Jamie Oliver in his crusade what hope is there for America?

As a pediatrician for 35 years I am seeing more and more overweight and obese children, that it really freighten me. If America thinks Health Care cost is high now, wait another 10 to 20 years and many of our pediatric patients will be getting HEART ATTACKS,TRIPLE HEART BY-PASSES, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, STROKES, DIABETES AND ALL IT'S COMPLICATIONS OF BLINDNESS, KIDNEY, LIVER TRANSPLANTS, AMPUTATIONS, ETC WHEN THEY ARE JUST IN THEIR LATE TWENTIES AND THIRTIES IS TRULY A NIGHT MARE. I LOVE WHAT CHEF JAMIE OLIVER IS TRYING TO DO....LEAVING HIS FAMILY TO COME TO AMERICA TO HELP US. HOW CAN A FELLOW HUMAN BEING JUST STAND ON THE SIDELINES AND SEE THIS IMMENSE TRAGEDY UNFOLDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES. I SAID TO MY COLLEAGUES OVER 8 YEARS AGO THAT THERE IS A HUGE TRAIN WRECK (OBESITY IN AMERICA) RIGHT IN FRONT OF US AND THERE ARE ADDITIONAL TRAINS THAT ARE STILL GOING FULL SPEED INTO THIS HORRENDOUS WRECK AND NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING TO STOP THE ON COMING TRAIN! PLEASE WAKE UP AMERICA. IT'S NOT THAT 5 YEAR OLD THAT HAS THE MONEY IN HIS OR HER POCKETS THAT IS GOING TO THE STORES BUYING THE CANDY AND CHIPS AND SODAS. IT'S NOT THE 10 YEAR OLD THAT IS DRIVING TO MCDONALDS OR BURGER KING OR PIZZA HUT AND THOUSANDS OF FAST FOOD PLACES..........IT'S US! US PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WHO WANTS TO GIVE THESE TREATS TO OUR CHILDREN TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN??? THIS IS SO, SO SAD LIKE THAT SONG: "KILLING ME SOFTLY" INSTEAD OF WORDS, IT'S WITH INAPPROPRIATE FOODS. PLEASE WAKE UP AMERICAN AND EMBRACE OUR HERO, CHEF JAMIE OLIVER AND JOIN IN HIS FOOD REVOLUTION. CHEF JAMIE OLIVER SHOULD BE NOMINATED FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR HAVING THE GUTS AND FORTITUDE TO STAND UP TO THE FAST FOOD, JUNK FOOD INDUSTRIES AND THE BUREAROCRACY WITH ALL HIS HEART AND SOUL BECAUSE HE DARES TO CARE ABOUT HUMANITY. WHY ARE WE INNOCENTLY POISONING THE LOVES OF OUR LIFES AND OUR MOST PRECIOUS POSSESSION.....OUR DARLING CHILDREN.......OUR FUTURE. THANK YOU, THANK YOU CHEF JAMIE OLIVER FOR DOING WHAT YOU FEEL IS JUST AND NECESSARY. I SUPPORT YOU A MILLION PERCENT, ALL THE WAY. KEEP IT UP AND ALL OF AMERICA WILL SLOWLY JOIN THIS GREAT FOOD REVOLUTION NATION AND SOON WORLDWIDE!!!
