There's no quicker way to upset overweight people then to tell them that they are eating too much and that they need to be honest about their food and drink intake! This is something that Andrew Lansley, the UK Health Secretary will have recently found out after his recent pronouncement that fat people needed to do exactly this!

On the other hand many people are applauding Andrew Lansley for his direct speaking and saying that it's about time that overweight people were made to feel 100% responsible for the fact that they have a weight problem. The same people argue that legislation, public health campaigns and other government initiatives to make people lose weight are a waste of time and a waste of money because every single man woman and child already knows that eating too much and not getting enough exercise makes you put on weight!
Surely, how much we eat and what we eat has absolutely nothing to do with the government and the idea that our freedoms in this respect are curbed or legislated against goes against the whole principle of democracy and fair government? There's also the argument that by placing the responsibility for your body weight even to a small extent on the government means that you are less likely to take personal responsibility for it and this is only going to make you eat more irresponsibly.
At Ukmedix News we can see the benefits of this approach however unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working and that governments who ignore the health of their people ultimately end up paying the price in lost productivity and health care bills. Maybe what the government should be doing is helping people to take personal responsibility for their lives and body weight by encouraging health campaigns, giving financial incentives for weight loss and promoting the idea that losing weight and living healthily improves your quality of life.
Maybe the National Health Service should use the following slogan to encourage people to lose weight... It's your Life, It's your Body, So do something about it!
