around ? of all the women had a misguided perception of their weight

A new study done in the United States shows that many women who are clinically overweight are labouring under the misconception that they are actually perfectly thin. The study which was done by asking questions regarding, diet, exercise and their perception of their weight shows that many women were genuinely unaware that they were of an unhealthy weight.

incorrect self perception means fat women think they are thin

At Ukmedix News we reckon that a lot of this self perception problem in America is due to the fact that there are so many obese and overweight individuals around that the "normal" weight perception has been shifted up over the last two decades. Because overweight American women are often surrounded by many other women who are even fatter than them they lose the correct idea of what is normal, and just reckon they must be OK because they are thinner than most of their friends and colleagues.

In all it was estimated at around ? of all the women who were questioned for the study had a misguided perception of what they actually looked like and actually weighed. The study which was published in the medical journal Obstetrics and Gynecology also observed that sixteen percent of the normal weight women were also unaware of their real weight which could have been put down to optimism or embarrassment.

One of the first things that people need to do if they are overweight is admit to themselves that they have a weight problem. It is a complete waste of time to try and get an individual to lose weight if they themselves don't believe they have a weight problem. If you are overweight or obese the best place to live is in America because you will not feel out of place especially in areas such as Huntington where obesity is rife.

Doctors and nutritionists need to educate the public in America and give them clear facts and statistics surrounding obesity so that they are aware of the real physiological health threats such as diabetes, heart disease, strokes, cancer and practically every other illness known to man.
