How To Tell Your Friends They Are Fat

Should you tell your friends that they are fat? This is a dilemma that many people face and if the truth be told the majority of them stay well away from making any comments for fear of causing offence. Many overweight people live in denial as a way of coping with their big size and the last thing they want you to do is point out something that they are having a big problem dealing with.

Very often it is a case of 'shoot the messenger' and you are unlikely to gain any respect or gratitude for offering to help somebody lose weight. But what if you really care about your friends and family and what if you are determined not to let a certain individual ruin their life with obesity?

If you really want to help somebody lose weight the best way around it is to try and get them to talk about their weight problem. Do it in a roundabout way and see if you can get them to open up about the problems associated with obesity. You may find yourself having a very emotional discussion and having to deal with a lot of psychological issues connected with overeating.

The other thing you should be aware of is that by trying to get a friend to talk about their weight problem you could end up losing that friend. You may think that you are doing a good thing but you could be touching a raw nerve which could damage the friendship permanently. Even saying something to an overweight friend like "I'm getting a gym membership do you want to join me?" can cause offence no matter how innocent it sounds.

At Ukmedix News we have already written extensively about how sensitive people are about their weight and how many of them deal with it by ignoring it completely. In a sense you'd think that it would be impossible to ignore obesity but the human brain has a way of adapting to any situation.

If you really care about someone and want them to lose weight be prepared to face a bit of flak. If your intentions are really genuine and pure they should come round and see the light. Good Luck!

I once told a friend that she was suffering back pain because she had gained a lot of weight, she was so hurt that it totally backfired and she would not talk to me for ages. Not worth it, a doctor should tell them.
