High Fat Breakfast Could Make You Thin

programming your metabolism for the rest of the day

Research released by the University of Alabama claims that having a full fat greasy breakfast could be the way forward to prevent the symptoms of obesity and all of its related conditions like hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol and insulin resistance which often end up with patients becoming fully blown diabetics.

High Fat Breakfast Could Make You Thin

What is also very interesting about this research is that it is the first research project to show a correlation between when you eat your calories and different levels of body fat. Previous studies have shown that it doesn’t matter when exactly you eat the calories throughout the day but this study shows that by consuming all of your fat in the morning leads to a lower chance of becoming overweight.

The research which was done using lab mice involved them being given either a high carbohydrate breakfast or a high fat breakfast. The researchers noted that those mice which were given the high fat breakfast tended to have normal metabolic profiles and were also able to easily burn fat throughout the day, but the mice who were given the high carbohydrate diet and consumed a high fat meal at the finish of the day were more overweight, had more belly fat, a higher glucose intolerance as well as the other usual cardiovascular risk indicators.

Professor Martin Young explained that it seemed that the first meal of the day was programming your metabolism for the rest of that day. He speculated that the high fat breakfast enabled the individual mice to have an ability to burn calories more efficiently throughout the rest of the day, whether those calories were either in the form of carbohydrates or fat. He also said that the high carbohydrate diet appeared to make it simpler for the body to burn carbohydrates but did not help the body to burn fat as easily.

One thing is for sure, and that is having a reasonably big breakfast is always a good idea because many studies have shown that a clear correlation between eating a good breakfast and lower rates of being overweight or obese. It does seem to make sense that if you are going to eat fat, having it in the morning before you get to work isn’t such a bad idea because it will give you energy when you need it.

This research does not mean that you now have a green light to have three eggs, four slices of bacon and five sausages every morning but it does mean that if you like an English breakfast there’s no harm in having a small one every day provided that you make up for it throughout the rest of the day with some fruits and vegetables and other healthy items.

This research was printed in the respected medical publication, the International Journal of Obesity.
