Healthy food is not expensive but is it unfortunately more time consuming

There is a perception among millions of people in the United Kingdom that healthy food is expensive and that the cheapest way to eat is by going to restaurants like Kentucky Fried Chicken where you can buy a tub of chicken bits for a tenner. In fact Kentucky Fried Chicken is planning to create 9,000 new jobs despite the credit crunch and other restaurant like McDonald’s, Burger King and Domino’s Pizza are all expected to grow in size over the next few years unlike most businesses. Unhealthy food is big business especially in a recession.

Healthier Food Is Cheaper

Healthy food is not expensive but is it unfortunately more time consuming and that is why it loses its appeal.  It is so much easier to order a takeaway when you get home after a busy day than prepare yourself a meal.  Working mothers know this more than anyone else and also have to deal with the protests of their children who would rather have a takeaway than a healthy home cooked meal.

If you are concerned about your bills in this rocky financial situation you should go down to a supermarket and buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as lean cuts of meat for your family. You will find that in the long term you will save much more on feeding your family than if you order ready meals and takeaways. With the exception of Jamie Oliver, celebrity chefs in the United Kingdom tend to give off the idea that healthy food is up market and therefore expensive. Home cooking is seen to be for dinner parties and for posh people but this should not be the case.

By eating healthily and sticking to home cooking you can not only improve the health of your family, (which will have a positive financial impact too), but you will also be better off at the end of the month.
