We have often expounded at Ukmedix News on the importance of maintaining a good variety of different foodstuffs in your diet. Trying to lose weight or even maintain a healthy weight by eating the same thing all the time is bound to bore you and this could end up making you fall off the healthy eating bandwagon.

However, maintaining a variety of different foods is not only important in a practical sense but it also has a significant effect on reducing the likelihood of you suffering from illness. Research done by the Antidiabetic Food Centre based at Lund University in Sweden shows that it is essential that you eat a whole range of foods with anti-inflammatory properties rather than always consuming just one or two.
The research which concentrated on food containing important anti-oxidants, Omega 3 fatty acids and fibre saw that the combination of these was extremely effective in reducing the chances of Alzheimer's disease, heart disease and diabetes all of which are potentially fatal.
The researchers also observed that the combination of these foods had a significant effect on reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. Professor Inger Björck, who heads the Antidiabetic Food Centre explained that the results that they came up with had actually "exceeded our expectations".
This research will be seized upon by nutritionists who argue that diet should be considered with a holistic approach and that the whole combination of different fruits, vegetables, whole grains, oily fish, nuts and lean proteins is the best way to eat healthily.
You should think carefully about what you are eating over the course of a week and see whether you are including variety in your diet. UK government guidelines say that you should eat at least five different fruits or veg every single day. You should find that by making the effort to do this you will not only be healthier but you also enjoy eating much more.
