A big fuss has been made after a woman who weighed an incredible 750lb. and who passed away at the age of 48 years old was removed from the place where she lived with a flatbed wrecker. A flatbed wrecker is usually used to remove crashed vehicles and has a crane on it to hoist the cars onto the back of them.

The woman who was from Indianapolis could not be moved by conventional means because of her huge size and the man responsible for her removal, Coroner Mr. Frank Lloyd said that in the circumstances he had no other choice than to remove the body with the flatbed wrecker. The Coroner said that he had contacted both the fire service and funeral parlours both of whom said they were unable to help him.
The woman’s boyfriend is said to be distraught after she was removed from the house in such an undignified manner and said that they covered her with an old carpet. She was so heavy that they had to drag her out of the house on her own mattress before getting the flatbed wrecker crane to hoist her on to the back.
The growing obesity crisis in America and in the United Kingdom means that the fire service is often called out to assist with the removal of extremely heavy bodies. Special ambulances have been designed to cope with the demand too but are often unavailable when needed.
Severe obesity can even trap a person in their house making it impossible for them to leave through normal doors and entrances. In some cases houses have had to have doors widened before removing bodies from the site.
Local councils and health authorities around the world are having to put into place special procedures to deal with obese bodies. Coffins are now being designed in much larger sizes and special crematoriums have been designed to cope with severely obese bodies.
