The UK government has launched a campaign to highlight the dangers of drinking alcohol which especially promotes the idea that regular drinkers will increase the chances of themselves becoming overweight or obese because of the large amount of calories present in alcohol. The government report says that the average person who drinks wine on a regular basis will put on as much as half a stone in fat over the course of the year. The idea of the campaign is that by highlighting the fact that alcohol has such high calories people may decide to cut back on their drinking habits.

The campaign uses statistics to show that an average wine drinker will take in an extra 2,000 calories every month which is the equivalent of eating 184 bags of crisps. They also said that if a couple shared a bottle of red wine it was similar from a calorie point of view to them having a Snickers chocolate bar each. The report also showed how that if a normal man had 5pints of lager weekly over the course of the year he would consume an extra 44,000 calories which is the equivalent of eating 221 donuts.
An official from the British Nutrition Foundation explained that two large glasses of white wine contained 370 calories which was almost twenty percent of an average women’s recommended daily calorie allowance. Men and women who eat healthily and get regular exercise may still have a weight problem if they drink too much. Regular alcohol consumption should be limited if you want to lose weight. If you like a glass of wine in the evening make sure that it is just the one glass and that it is a small one. Some people we have spoken to at Ukmedix News explained that when they quit or cut back on alcohol the pounds started to fall off without any other changes in their diet.
Some research shows that mild and even moderate alcohol consumption is in fact good for you and can help your heart, however you need to be very careful not to go over the limit!

It is not difficult to eat a bar of snikers a day or to eat a doughnut a day especially if you crave sweet things. Why does the governement allow products so high in calories to be sold? Should there not be a control on calories per portion? UKMEDIX can you do something about it please?
