blaming your genes for your weight problem is not a good idea

At Ukmedix News we have previously written about the FATSO gene which when present in people produces a slightly greater risk of becoming obese. The good news is however that those individuals who carry the FATSO gene but make a point of having a physically active lifestyle considerably reduce the chances of themselves becoming obese.

fatso gene impact diminished by physical activity

The discovery which was made by the MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge was done by looking at the medical data of over 218,000 adults. They saw that the increased risk of obesity was only 1.22 times greater in active FATSO gene carriers compared to 1.30 times greater in those carriers who were not physically active. This translates into a considerable 27 percent reduction in the likelihood of obesity.

Many individuals like to blame their genetic makeup for the reason that they have weight problems and to a certain extent they have a point. Nevertheless, it is extremely important that all overweight carriers of the FATSO gene remember that there are millions of individuals who also have the FATSO gene and who do not have any sort of weight problem.

This new study highlights that blaming your genes for your weight problem is not a good idea and if anything can be very counterproductive. Doctors will prescribe exactly the same remedies to overweight individuals with the FATSO gene to lose weight as they will to individuals who do not have the genetic disposition to obesity.

Individuals carrying the FATSO gene who say that they cannot do anything about their weight are usually trying to avoid facing up to the truth which usually includes that they eat too much junk food and they do not get any exercise.

Having the FATSO gene only makes it more imperative and more important that you live a healthy and active lifestyle if you want to have a good quality of life and a reasonable longevity.
