Exercise Link To Brain Function

physical activity energises the brain and exercises memory functions

At Ukmedix News whenever we write about the benefits of exercise we always mention that it can have a beneficial effect not only on weight loss but also it also induces a state of relaxation and calm and greatly reduces stress. Many people also say that the exercise clears their mind and allows them to focus and think more clearly and rationally.

Exercise Link To Brain Function

Just recently at Ukmedix News we have come across new research which shows the effect that excise can have on the brain and the mind. The researchers said that they can now understand how physical activity energises the brain and exercises memory functions which could over the long term prevent you from developing cognitive problems like Alzheimer's disease.

The study which was presented in Chicago at the 2008 International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease explained that physical activity had a significantly dramatic effect on the part of the brain which deals with memory called the hippocampus region. When men and women begin to suffer from Alzheimer's disease this part of the brain is the first to suffer.

Professor Robyn Honea explained that their research had been able to identify the changes linked to fitness in this hippocampus region of the brain and therefore they could almost conclusively prove that cardiorespiratory exercise could slow down the onset of the degenerative effects on this part of the brain of Alzheimer's disease.

This study was further backed up by more research done by the Columbia University Medical Center who produced evidence to show that exercise could even enhance the growth of the nerve cells in the brain area, something that was deemed previously not to be possible.

The researchers engaged volunteers and made them exercise every day over a three month period and at the end of the research among other things they noted many of them were able to recall events better. They also saw that those volunteers who were at a genetic risk of suffering from Alzheimer's reduce their likelihood of suffering from it.

You should use this evidence as further motivation for you to do exercise. If you live a stressful and busy life and find that you often don’t have time for exercise you need to start to prioritise. By taking an hour out every day to get some exercise you may find that your brain works better, more clearly and effectively for the rest of the day producing a virtuous circle of productivity.  By not doing exercise you’ll never break out of the stressful cycle of work, poor sleep and anxiety associated with busy modern lifestyles.
