A new survey which examined how much women knew about the health risks of obesity has come up with surprising results, and shows that much more education is required if people are to fully understand how much danger they are placing themselves in by being overweight. This survey which was conducted by the MD Anderson Cancer Centre based in Houston, Texas shows that around half of all the women question were unaware of the link between obesity and higher rates of cancer. For example only 42 percent of those women questioned were aware that obesity would increase the chances of them suffering from endometrial cancer.

The other surprising finding was that just under half of the women questioned were aware that obesity would increase the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer. In fact obesity increases the chances of you suffering from practically every single type of cancer. The researchers said that this survey clearly showed that doctors must not only mention the obvious health risks associated with obesity such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes but should also point out the very statistically significant cancer risk.
For this survey over one and a half thousand women who were of the category “fairly well educated” were submitted to questioning. It is therefore likely that less well educated women would know even less about the link between the dangers of being overweight and cancer. Ukmedix News has come across many other different research initiatives which show that obesity increases the likelihood of practically every single illness under the sun. Obesity has been linked to dementia, arthritis and even blindness.
If you do not do something about your weigh the chances are that by the time you get to middle age you will suffer from some obesity related illness which will impinge greatly on your quality of life. The younger you are when you lose weight and start to live and eat healthily the greater your chances are of approaching old age in comfort and without the stress and worry of illness.
