The parents of a sixteen month old girl have been advised by doctors that she must eat up to 3,000 calories daily in order to grow faster and counteract the effects of being born prematurely. This huge calories intake represents about twice the normal adult woman is expected to eat over the course of a day. Tiny Agatha who was born eleven weeks early and weighed less than 4lb. nearly died after she suffered from heart failure. She also had a brain hemorrhage, high blood pressure and digestive problems all of which contributed to her poorly weight.

Agatha now eats a diet which some women would die for. She has full fat yogurt, chocolate puddings, vegetables swimming in olive oil as well as regular snacks throughout the day. Her mother is however adamant that despite the huge calorie intake the food is healthy and takeaways are definitely off the menu. Her mother went on to say that feeding Agatha this huge diet was a bit of a strain and she was looking forward to being able to feed her normally like other young children.
The link between calorie intake and weight gain is an important one and one which anyone hoping to lose weight or gain weight should be aware of. It is possible to eat a high calorie diet which is healthy and not put on weight provided that you get regular exercise to burn off the excess calories. If you have been ill and undernourished as in the case of Agatha eating those extra calories can help you to recover your strength quickly but you should be careful not to overdo it.
Ukmedix News reported last year on the case of the gold medal winning Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps who consumed as much as 12,000 calories a day when he was training without putting on an ounce of fat.
If you are person who enjoys eating and you find a calorie restricted diet extremely difficult you should focus on getting down to the gym and burning off the extra calories. You should also think about building up your muscle mass so that you burn off extra calories even when you are not exercising. If you have a lot of muscle on your body you will burn off more calories even when you are sitting at your desk.
