One of the things that many scientists agree on is that humans need their fair share of Omega-3 fatty acids to maintain optimum health. Ukmedix has seen many research projects that have looked into the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids and they all show that its consumption can boost the health of the brain the hearts and make you more resistant to disease. The biggest and best supply of Omega-3 fatty acids comes from fish like salmon and tuna.
A recent report coming from Australia shows however that below 25% of Australians are eating enough fish to get their correct doses of the all-essential fatty acids. The survey did note that over half of the Australian people consume seafood at least once a week but less than a quarter are eating enough of it. Most nutritionists agree that you should consume seafood at least twice a week and try to eat oily fish as it contains the highest concentration of the Omega 3.
The researchers also noted that women eat more seafood than men with the figures showing that 27% of women ate seafood more than once weekly and only 20% of men did the same. Traditionally women are considered to be more aware of what food is good for them and what isn’t and are also more conscious of the fact that most seafood is very low in fat and therefore a healthy addition to a weight loss diet.
According to health authorities in Australia men need 610milligrams of Omega-3 fatty acids weekly and women only need 430milligrams. The Food Standards Authority of Australia and New Zealand are keen to promote the consumption of fish to the general population are therefore in an unusual step will permit the slogan “Oily fish will help in the prevention of heart disease” to be put on packaging.
Many people while they say that they like to eat fish find that the preparation of it to be problematic and time consuming and so that is why it is not as popular as other types of food. The Food Standards Authority is helping to promote easy to prepare recipes and will give cash prizes to the best ones.
