TGI’s said that they were happy to comply with the regulations...

The restaurant Thank God It’s Friday or T.G.I. Fridays for short, has put out a press release regarding its intended compliance with New York’s new anti- obesity laws. The new laws set out by the New York City Council say that all restaurants must be trans fat free by July 2008. TGI’s said that they would be trans fat compliant by a whole year earlier by July 2007.

T.G.I. Friday

TGI’s said that they were happy to comply with the regulations as they feel that it will make the whole TGI experience more healthy and remove the threat posed to diners by trans fat. Trans fat is a by product of frying food in hydrogenated vegetable oil and is without doubt the fattiest of all fats and is notorious for clogging arteries. Too much trans fat over a long time can result in serious health implications and obesity. TGI’s say that the quality and taste of their products will not be compromised when they start to use more natural oils.

In the Ukmedix Newsroom we had a chat about all these trans fat free campaigns in America and there were some of us who felt that the whole thing could have a negative impact. They said that many overweight and obese people will use any excuse to convince themselves that the unhealthy food from TGI’s is now healthy and they will think that they can gorge themselves at TGI’s without putting on weight. While trans fat is worse for you than other types of fat this does not mean that eating at any fast food restaurant can now be considered to be different or less fattening if you are serious about keeping thin or losing weight.

TGI’s are now lined up with McDonalds, Burger King and a host of other restaurants to be trans fat free by the stipulated time. Many of the restaurants are using their trans fat free status as a public relation campaign.

Ukmedix News says you still have to watch out for fast food, trans fat or trans fat free!
