Diet Link To Prostate Cancer

Ukmedix has learnt of research that says that 1 out of 6 American men will suffer from cancer of the prostate and that they will be mainly OAPs with an average age of seventy. The statistics also show that over one third will suffer from a recurrence of the cancer afer being treated for it which is potentially fatal. The reserahc however showed that people who made a drastic change in diet and also underwent stress management training were more likely to slow and stop the spread of the cancer.

The research that was carried out by Doctor Gordon Saxe at the Moores Cancer Centre in the University of California looked at the varying levels of prostate specific antigen or PSA when different plant based diets and stress reduction techniques were used. The participants in the program were asked to increase their intake of plant based foodstuffs like whole grains, leafy green vegetables, legumes, beans and fruit as well as to lower the consumption of meats, dairy products and refined carbs.

The study also taught the patients stress management using yoga as well as Tai Chi exercises. The combination of these two factors was seen to be significantly effective in lowering the PSA level which signifies a reduction in the progression of prostate cancer. In the research 40% of patients had a complete reduction in PSA levels signifying disease remission and 90% had a lowering of PSA rise rate as well as an improvement in the PSA doubling times signifying a consistent slow down of the advancement of prostate cancer.

The researchers said that the effect of these diet and stress reduction factors were the most effective interventions for the remission of prostate cancer and required further research and study.
