You have heard us talking about this before at Ukmedix News and we thought we would share a little bit more information about the Mediterranean Diet that came our way recently. A new study that looked at almost 400,000 men and women over a five year period noted that the Mediterranean Diet was responsible for a twenty percent reduced risk from heart disease and also a seventeen percent reduced risk of cancer.

The Mediterranean Diet is thousands of years old and has high concentrations of fish, vegetables and fruit which have been shown by scientists to be extremely good for your heart and general health. The Mediterranean Diet includes smaller quantities of red meat and dairy products and an emphasis on natural fats such as olive oil.
The Mediterranean Diet has a complete absence of any processed foodstuffs which have begun to dominate western diets in recent years. Processed food which is high in salt and sugar and low on nutrition is said to be responsible for many of the health problems facing people in Europe and America today.
People who eat the Mediterranean Diet tend to have low blood pressure which in a separate study has been shown to lower the risk of cognitive decline with age. The research that was done in New York made clear that the men and women with normal blood pressure were 40 percent less likely to suffer from mild cognitive problems.
The Mediterranean Diet also has the added advantage of being extremely varied and tasty which means that you are unlikely to get bored of it over time. It is extremely important that you enjoy what you eat to minimise the chances of you falling of the bandwagon and going back to unhealthy eating habits.
