Cancer and Diet Connection

Ukmedix can't stress the importance enough of having a good diet in order to maintain a healthy heart. Almost all cases of heart disease reported on the UK tend to have a root in bad and unhealthy diet. The number of studies into the link between diet and heart disease are endless but less study has been done on the link between cancer and diet and while it seems clear that the two are connected actually coming up with concrete proof of the link is proving to be more difficult.

At a recent get together for the American Society of Clinical Oncology the issue was discussed and the fact that scientists have noted for years the fact that in under developed countries where people are forced by circumstances and tradition to consume more fruit and vegetables and fish have been shown to have a lower incidence of cancer cases than in nations where diets contain more fat and red meat.

A lot of studies have tried to prove definitive statistical evidence but clinical research involving the reduction of fat to stop breast cancer, eating more fibre to stop colon tumors and eating lots of fruit and veg as a general cancer avoidance strategy have not provided that.

Other anti cancer strategies like consuming beta-carotene dietary supplements were shown not to reduce the amount of cancer but in fact to increase it and another trial with vitamin E had no noticeable effect. However in the course of diet and cancer studies a couple of things did come to light that show that there is something that may be done to reduce the chances of you getting cancer.

Firstly it seems that your lifelong diet is the most important thing and that last minute changes in diet have very little effect in cancer prevention and secondly it appears that the quantity of food you eat can determine your risk for cancer. Studies show that people who eat very small amounts live longer and have a reduced likelihood of cancer. Overweight and obese people suffer more from cancer of the colon, the liver and the pancreas as well as a host of others.
