Dairy Foods May Increase Fat Burning Capacity

The secret to eating healthily is moderation

Most people who go on diets these days warn you to stay away from dairy foods because they are known to contain considerable amounts of fat and therefore calories. However a new research project which was funded by the National Dairy Council shows that is not necessarily the case and that dairy foods make a difference to helping individuals maintain weight loss over the long term.

Dairy Foods May Increase Fat Burning Capacity

The head researcher Dr Michael Zemel from the University of Tennessee explained that the study suggested that eating dairy foods could help individuals in burning fat and thus allowing them to eat more calories without putting on weight. The study also showed that people who ate three servings of dairy produce daily were able to eat more calories overall without putting on weight compared to those individuals who only consumed under one serving of dairy food daily.

The research which is published in full in the medical journal Nutrition & Metabolism could help to dispel the idea that eating dairy foods leads to weight gain. What is also important and which was pointed out by the researchers was that if dairy products allow individuals to eat more calories without putting on weight then they should be part of a weight loss plan. Weight loss plans which allow more calories are more likely to succeed than those which restrict calories for obvious reasons.

Doctor Zemel claims that other studies have shown a clear correlation between diets which are high in calcium and maintaining a healthy weight, but there have been no specific studies to look into whether humans eating significant amounts of calcium and dairy foods lose weight. Doctor Zemel is a patent holder for calcium use to treat weight problems.

At Ukmedix News we welcome this research which shows that dairy products do not always promote weight gain but would like to remind our readers that excessive consumption of full fat dairy products will almost invariably result in weight gain. The secret to eating healthily is moderation and dairy products should form part of a healthy balanced diet as they contain many essential nutrients.
