Concern About Blobbies On The Beat

The problem has been nicknamed blobbies on the beat

Ukmedix News recently reported about the problem in the American army in which they are having difficulty in finding healthy recruits because of the huge numbers of overweight and obese individuals in the country. The issue however is coming closer to home after government figures issued by the Home Office show that the existing police force in the United Kingdom is becoming increasingly unfit and thus less effective.

Concern About Blobbies On The Beat

Part of the problem officers say, is due to the fact that these days policemen spend more time behind a desk filling out paperwork than actually walking the beat and this is they claim has made many of them put on weight. The problem is difficult to document because the requirement that all police officers submit to fitness testing every year has been removed as a Home Office rule for the police. One police force however in North Wales introduced its own testing and this led to five percent of officers failing and to policemen actually being taken off duty until they lost weight.

The problem which has been nicknamed ‘blobbies on the beat’ is only likely to increase especially if police officers are not given stringent rules about health and fitness which they must follow to be able to serve as policemen.

The American police force is also suffering from this problem and recent research published by the Harvard School of Public Health commented that the fire service in America was also under considerable strain because of obesity, and many people were questioning its operational ability which could end up with lives being lost.

What many people do not understand about national weight problems is that it affects and permeates into all sections of society weakening the fabric of the nation and causing huge extra costs in health care bills and lost productivity. Getting the UK thin and healthy needs to be given a much higher priority than it is now by the British government if they are serious about doing something about it.
