Cancer Death From Obesity On The Increase

greatly increase the risk of practically every single type of cancer

A new report has highlighted the full extent of obesity related cancer in the European Union. Researchers led by Professor Andrew Renehan from the University of Manchester have compiled evidence to show the obesity was linked to almost 125,000 cases of cancer in 2008. Their research shows that obesity related cancer tends to affect women more with 8.6 percent of new cancer cases linked to carrying too much weight, compared to only 3.2 percent of the same in men. The majority of the cancers diagnosed were breast, endometrial or colorectal tumours.

Cancer Death From Obesity On The Increase

The researchers who hail from Switzerland, the UK and Holland designed a computer program to analyse medical data. They said that the risk of obesity related cancer was now 77 percent greater than it was in 2002 when only around 70,000 cases of cancer were directly linked to obesity. The researchers also noted that if this upward trend of obesity continued it would overtake smoking as the number one preventable cause of cancer in females.

This research which was announced at the European Cancer Organisation and European Society for Medical Oncology Conference being held in Berlin should help to highlight the fact that obesity and cancer go hand in hand.

Unfortunately while many people are aware that obesity causes heart disease, diabetes and other metabolic problems they are completely unaware that being overweight can greatly increase the risk of practically every single type of cancer. A lot of the risk factors associated with obesity and cancer are not just linked to the obesity itself but also because obese people tend to consume unhealthy diets devoid of fruit and vegetables which are known to prevent cancer.

The reality is that if you are overweight or obese for all of your life one of the obesity related illnesses will eventually catch up with you and take you to an early death.

I knew it!

I really thought that cancers can kick of in the overweight- its probably to do with lack of exercise, and also the type of food your typical fattie eats.

I object to the word fattie being used by fatboyslim even if he is fat himself he should not have been used. Its like saying lamie or blindie.
