Well, the good news for women who have chunky backsides and thighs is that research has shown that it is not always bad for you! A study done at Oxford University claims that fat bums could even protect you against diabetes and heart disease.

According to Professor Konstantinos Manolopoulos who led the research the fat that is stored in the bottom area may help to diffuse toxic fatty acids and also contains compounds which may prevent arteries from blocking up. They pointed out that the fat around the backside was far more healthy than having fat around your waistline which has been shown to be detrimental to health in other studies.
A larger waistline has been directly correlated to an increasing likelihood of suffering from heart disease. Professor Manolopoulos said that this study could lead to more research about the processes by which larger thighs and bottoms could have beneficial cardiovascular and metabolic effects.
The research which was published by the International Journal of Obesity is likely to start a debate about what level of fat retention is good for you and whether it is normal and healthy for women, especially older ones to fill out around the hips.
Women should remember that to some extent it is quite normal to have a curvy shape and they shouldn’t obsess about the size of their backside provided that they eat healthily and get regular exercise. Women come in all shapes and sizes and we have argued before at Ukmedix News that women should love the way they are and not look about media images which portray unrealistic and often unhealthy body shapes.
