Are Fat People Funnier...

the personalities of overweight people change when they lose weight

Are fat people funnier in general than thin people? Think about it; I bet you have a few very funny fat friends and could it be that their constant humour is connected to their excess weight? Some people even say that when their fat friends lose weight they aren't as funny as they used to be. For example the comedian Jonah Hill who recently lost a whole lot of weight still reckons he is as funny as he was, but somehow being skinny means that the impact of some of his jokes seems diminished.

Being slim means that he cannot make those self depreciating comments about his size which give him the impression of being a lovable loser with a weight problem. Obese people actually make overweight and slim people feel better about themselves and therefore they are more likely to laugh at their jokes. Jo Brand, the UK stand up act is another comedian who does very well by making comments about her weight and the problems that she experiences living with obesity.

A psychologist might argue that because fat people feel that they give bad first impressions they tend to try and make up for it by making that extra effort to be personable and liked and the best way to do this is to make people laugh.  Being obese is also very bad for your confidence and produces low self esteem so what better way to counteract this than constantly making people laugh. Making people happy and enjoy themselves does a lot for your well being.

It has been observed that the personalities of overweight people change when they lose weight. Because they can now rely more on their looks and their appearance rather than their humour and wit they often become quieter and more reserved. They are also probably much happier and less nervous in social situations. These are of course all generalisations because not all fat people are funny and not all thin people are quiet and reserved but one thing is for sure is that your weight will definitely have a bearing in some way on your character and personality.
