Allergic Link To Children Being Obese

A clinical study done with over 4,000 children shows that there is a correlation between suffering from food allergies and suffering from obesity. The research which was headed by Dr Cindy Visness examined the medical data of the participating children who were between the ages of two and nineteen.

For example the results showed that children who were overweight or obese were over 50% more probable to be allergic to milk and that they were also around 25% more likely to suffer from a minimum of one food allergy.
There isn't much that can be drawn from this research because it has not been established whether the obesity itself was causing the food allergies, but it does merit further research and examination to find out why the link is there. It could be that the allergies are actually in part responsible for obesity in children in which case treatments for the allergies could also be treatment for the obesity.
It has also been put forward that children who suffer from food allergies therefore eat a more limited variety of foods which makes it more difficult for them to get a regular balanced diet and thus the chances of them suffering from obesity are greater.
At Ukmedix News we have seen how obesity impacts on the health of children in many different ways. Children who are obese suffer from hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea and many other health conditions so it would be no surprise for us if it was confirmed that obesity was directly causing food allergies, however we will wait for further research to be done before drawing conclusions.
The research was published in full in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
