Practically every single weight loss, nutrition and diet organisation argues that you must increase the fruit and veg intake in your diet to lose weight and to be healthy. At Ukmedix News we would argue that unless you make a specific effort to eat fruit and vegetables every day you will end up suffering from an illness as a result.

At the University of Liverpool a study has been done which shows that by increasing the level of fruit, vegetables and nuts in your diet you can even reduce the chances of an illness called Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). This illness which causes blindness in old people due to the breakdown of particular cells in the retina of the eye can be prevented provided that fruit and vegetables are made an important part of your daily diet. This illness is the biggest cause of blindness in the UK.
Professor Ian Grierson who heads the Ophthalmology division of the University of Liverpool has even produced a cooking book called ‘Fruit for Vision,’ which makes a specific point of having fruit and vegetables in every recipe. The Professor explained that the recipes helped men and women suffering from AMD to reduce the degeneration rate by boosting vitamins, antioxidants and micronutrients.
There are literally hundreds of studies which show that men and women who consume fruit and vegetables throughout their lives are less likely to suffer from an unhealthy and disease ridden old age. You should know that despite the fact that you feel healthy now, by eating unhealthily you are setting yourself up for an unpleasant and uncomfortable old age. Healthy eating is an investment in your future and could make the last years of your life golden as opposed to miserable.
