Is taking Viagra bad for your heart ?

Prior to taking Viagra for the first time you must check with your physician that your heart is healthy. If you have a heart condition and you are using nitrate drugs do not take Viagra. This combination can make your blood pressure plummet. This can lead to faintness, dizziness or even a heart attack. All prescription medicines used to treat angina (chest pain due to heart disease) should be checked for nitrates. The following are examples of such medication:

· Isosorbide mononitrate
· Isosorbide dinitrate
· Nitroglycerin
· Amyl Nitrate or Amyl Nitrite. These are recreational drugs known as “poppers”.

Consult your physician if you are not sure whether your medication contains nitrates.

Sexual activity can be demanding on the heart. In some cases physicians do not recommend sex, with or without medication. Patients should always check the condition of their heart with a physician before taking Viagra.

Can I drink alcohol alongside Viagra?

It is not advisable to drink large amounts of alcohol before taking Viagra.

Do certain foods effect the use of Viagra?

Eating fatty foods can cause a delay in the effects of Viagra on erectile dysfunctions.

Are there any side effects with Viagra ?

Side effects such as headaches, facial flushing and an upset stomach can occur, though these are most likely with higher doses of Viagra. Usually mild, these side effects do not last longer than a few hours. There is also the possibility of bluish or blurred vision or sensitivity to light. Should an erection last longer than four hours seek medical attention.

What if Viagra doesn't work?

As stated Viagra works in around 80% of known cases. However, you may need to try Viagra in varying doses for it to work effectively for you. Should it not work, please consult your doctor to discuss other alternatives.
