Safed Musali, The Indian Viagra

A herbal remedy that is sometimes called the Indian Viagra known as Safed Musali has been the subject of many news articles as it seems that a large number of farmers had been asked to cultivate the plant after being promised loans from banks to do so. It appears that now the financial backers have pulled out leaving the farmers with vast amounts of this crop unsold. Many herbal remedies for erectile dysfunction have lost their selling power and desirability since the Pfizer made Viagra appeared on the market, but Safed Musali still has some loyal followers.

The herbal remedy Safed Musali is also said to be beneficial as a pain relievers or a a general health tonic for debility and impotency. In a powder form it is said to boost the lactation in mothers and cows and has been used by many pharmaceutical com[anies. While it is likely that the Safed Musali plant has some good medical properties it always must be remembered that most of them have not been clinically proven to cure impotence and also that the placebo effect often works wonders with erectile dysfunction medication.

Nevertheless Safed Musali, is one of the officially recognised medicinal plants by the National Medicinal Plants Board which is a division of the Ministry of Health in India. The demand for the herb is not just limited to India but is also sold abroad and some people say that demand surpasses supply, but this is disputed by the aforementioned farmers.

The Safed Musali plant is found in the forest regions of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. and is a little plant that only measures 30 to 50 cm and lives for three to eight months appearing during the monsoon season.
