The sales of these erectile dysfunction drugs were so incredible...

The Viagra erectile dysfunction drug is to be tested on preganant women as it is possible that it may have positive effects on a dangerous illness called pre-eclampsia that can cause women to deliver babies prematurely. It is also possible that Viagra may help some women who suffer from high blood pressure when they are pregnant.

All the manufacturers of erectile dysfunction medication have been really looking hard for new applications of their medicines. The sales of these erectile dysfunction drugs were so incredible at the beginning that the companies spent most of their time and money in promoting the established uses of the drug and put other research on the back burner but now that things have stabilised somewhat they are looking for new remedies that can be conjured up from this type of PDE-5 inhibiting drug.

Viagra sold over £800 million last year and sales are likely to continue rising. Almost every month we come across clinical trials in which Viagra is being used to cure some other illness as opposed to erectile dysfunction. It is already licensed to be used to help men and women who suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension and has been used to help babies who were born with the condition.

Viagra was not originally intended to be an erectile dysfunction drug, but in fact as a treatment for people who suffer from angina and it was only after men started reporting pleasant side effects that the drug company Pfizer realised that they could be onto something good.  Many drugs that are on the market today were discovered by accident and as a side effect of clinical testing in humans.

In order for Viagra to be licensed for use with other application it must be tested with these other applications and because it is allowed to be used for erectile dysfunction does not allow it to be used in the treatment of other illnesses and diseases until the relevant medical authorities are satisfied that it is effective and safe for those conditions.
