Viagra Has Older People Having Sex

The Ukmedix newsroom last month reported the problem of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV which is occuring in parts of the world where Viagra is regularly dispensed to older people. Pensioners who are able to have sex with the help of Viagra are reporting rises in the number of cases of STD and also more are being diagnosed with HIV. As most female pensioners are post menopausal they dont have to worry about preganancy and thus they often don't bother using condoms.
Now it appears that something is being done about about the problem in the United States and it is called Senior HIV Intervention Program or SHIP for short. The idea is to educate the older people who are still sexually active about the importance of using condoms and practising safe sex. Many older people know less about sex and the use of condoms than younger people who are more savvy due to millions being spent on public health campaigns for them. When most of these pensioners were young sex was much more of a taboo subject and therefore was not openly discussed. The SHIP campaign goes to old peoples homes and to any place were old people meet and congregate and are normally addressed by someone older too so that they can connect to the person giving the advice and explaining all about the use of condoms.
The problem of HIV and AIDS is growing in the United States with an estimated 114,000 citizens over the age of fifty that are suffering from AIDS and the statistics show that around 1 in 10 new infections are found in people that are older 50 and about 2.5% are in people who are over 60 years of age. The overall number of new AIDS infections has not increased over the last 10 years but the proportion of those who are older has clearly risen and Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medicines must take some of the blame for that.
In fact the number of people in the United States that are over 50 and have AIDS has risen greatly from just over 16,000 in 1995 to over 100,000 in 2006. It is true that some of the suffers who are over 50 got the virus when they were under 50 but the numbers show a definite increase anyway you look at them. The largest problem is to be found in Florida as it is the most popular retirement location in the United States and the stories of older people having to suddenly confront an AIDS problem are numerous.
