Not Much Chance Of Viagra OTC

We have been tapping our usual sources in the world of pharmacy recently for a bit of feedback on the story about the possible sale of over the counter Viagra and we are afraid to say that Pfizer is likely to encounter an uphill battle that is unlikely to be successful in the quest to get Viagra sold without a prescription.
When we reported on this story a few days back we were pretty surprised that Pfizer should entertain such an idea and so is most of the pharmaceutical industry that we have been able to talk too.
Most of them pointed out that many deaths would have occurred with Viagra if there had not been doctors to warn potential patients that they could not use Viagra at the same time as nitrates for the heart. Also many people do not know that the using of Viagra in men with low blood pressure can be dangerous too. There are also other issues that need to be taken into consideration that only really can be dealt with by a doctor who knows what he is talking about.
Personally at Ukmedix we feel that it is unlikely Pfizer would ever waste their time with an application to the FDA or the EMEA to make Viagra an over the counter drug as it is likely to given short shrift and thrown out pretty quickly.
It seems that most news agencies have taken Pfizer assertion that they are looking at new ways to sell their erectile dysfunction drug too literally and after all they only said they were thinking about it and everyone is entitled to think a bit.
At Ukmedix we came up with our own little theory. … maybe Pfizer was saying that they would try to get permission to sell it without prescription just to test the reaction to the idea and see whether they got any positive feedback. Well I think the answer is simple for Pfizer now as they know that the drug is not going to be received well as an OTC drug.
