Gonzalo Navarrete said that they will be given the Viagra tablets once a week following a medical examination. He said that they would not just be handing them out like sweets but would be doing so in a responsible manner so that the risk of side effects would be minimised. The program which is estimated to cost around $20,000 was set up after the mayor said older men often complained about the lack of sex that they were getting.
Many people will question the spending of state funds on erectile dysfunction medication in an area of the world where money need to be spent on health, education and other essential things that are seriously lacking.
At Ukmedix News we remember a similar story of a mayor in a tiny town of Brazil doing the same thing a couple of years ago. It seems that in both cases the Viagra has proved to be a great vote winner with the aging elderly male population. At the same time however wives and girlfriends of these older men have not always been too happy with the free Viagra being given out.
In poorer South American countries Viagra is very expensive relative to the wages that people earn and therefore men often have to forgo it completely or buy substandard fakes that are sold on the black market.
