The youngest man in the UK to take Viagra has been confirmed as Ben Hayes at the age of…. wait for it…he’s only 2 years old! Before you get confused he didn’t take the drug for erectile dysfunction but for a heart condition that was putting pressure on his heart. This is not the first time that Viagra has been prescribed for babies and in other countries even younger babies have used the drug to prevent the harmful effects of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
The drug was administered by his mother who mixes it with his baby food in minute quantities so that the arteries in his heart and lungs open to prevent a build up of pressure that can be fatal to young children. In fact in Ben’s case he needs the drug not for pulmonary arterial hypertension but because an operation to reconnect an artery to his heart hasn’t been completely successful.
When his mother went to get the prescription the pharmacists innocently reckoned that it must be for her husband never believing that in fact it was for her 2-year-old son. Now having had a further operation to correct the problem he no longer needs to take the erectile dysfunction medication which he was taking as much as 4 times daily.
Ben was seen to be much more energetic and livelier after he was given the Viagra and the treatment is likely to be used in similar cases in the future after it had such good results with Ben.
Ben was operated and treated at the famous Great Ormond Street Hospital in London that specialises in looking after very young children. At Ukmedix News we all hope that Ben makes a full recovery and at least when he is older we know that he will have something to boast about to his buddies.
