Research released at the AGM of the American Urological Association shows that using a combination of sildenafil (Viagra) and alfuzosin can work in synergy to treat men with prostate problems coupled with erectile dysfunction.
The researchers form the Institute for Bladder and Prostate Health said that using bothe drugs concurrently had been shown to be safe and was the best remedy for the sustaining of sexual function in males who had lower urinary tract problems. The alfuzosin drug was effective in curing the prostate symptoms and the sildenafil or Viagra improved the sexual function.
The research program studied twenty men who were just treated with alfuzosin, another 21 were given Viagra only and the last group of 21 got both alfuzosin and Viagra together. As expected the patients in the first group had good results with the treatment of the prostate problems and only a small improvement in sexual function, the group recieving Viagra alone had little effect on the prostrate but better sexual function and the last group who recieved both drugs had the best results for both prostrate betterment and improved sexual function.
The research shows that Viagra can improve the general health of the prostrate gland as well as boost sexual function and the researchers said that more work needs to be done to know how the synergy of the drugs really works and if it can be improved further. Viagra was originally developed for angina but was found to be most effective for treating erectile dysfunction. Viagra is being found to be useful in many different applications especially with pulmonary arterial hypertension and other lung and heart problems and more research is being done with the drug to see what other uses it can be put to.
