Some of Ukmedix News readers will already know that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation which is the biggest healthcare and education charity for people who suffer from AIDS in America has actually sued Pfizer the makers of Viagra the impotence drug. The case has yet to be heard by the American Courts and when it is Ukmedix News will be following it closely.

In a surprise move however the AIDS Healthcare Foundation has taken its battle with Pfizer one step further by contacting the Food and Drug Administration of America and formally petitioning them to disallow over the counter sales of Viagra. At present Viagra is only permitted to be sold with a prescription but last month Pfizer said that they were possibly considering asking the FDA to allow over the counter sales of their best selling impotence drug.
The AHF’s move is a bold step and shows how seriously they see the threat of Viagra with the spread of AIDS. The AHF have special AIDS clinics all over the world that give out information and health care and they claim that the irresponsible way that Viagra is marketed in America is causing the drug to become a recreational drug that is used by men who don’t really need it.
The real issue is the fact that Viagra allows a man who is inebriated or high on drugs to get fully erect and for a long time. This means that it is possible to have full penetrative sex possibly a number of times when he is not in a fit state to make a careful and calculated decision and this leads to many men having unprotected sex with women. The gay community has also been making much use of Viagra for this purpose and the AHF say that it is therefore becoming very much responsible for the proliferation of the disease.
The AHF say that Viagra should only be prescribed by a doctor and therefore advertising directly to the consumer as Pfizer does in America should be banned. The AHF have already banned sales reps from Pfizer from visiting them at their healthcare centres.
