In what is one of the largest hauls of fake Viagra ever seized the police in India have uncovered a manufacturing plant churning out huge quantities of the world’s best selling erectile dysfunction medication.

Viagra, which has been on sale India legally only for the last four years is probably the world’s most counterfeited medication. The police in India said that the complete haul of fake drugs was in the region of 200kg and around 120kg of this was Viagra. The manufacturing plant was located in the town of Udyog Vihar in the Haryana region and the Viagra was allegedly being shipped out to America, Europe and Canada.
The police have been collecting evidence and will be submitting the drugs to analysis to find out what exactly they contain. They have found evidence that the Viagra drug was being manufactured on site and have found the active ingredient of Viagra, sildenafil citrate, in its raw material form as well as packaged products ready for shipping.
The initiative for this spectacular raid came from an organisation by the name of Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights who collected information over a number of months and supplied it to the local police so that they could conduct the operation.
The Indian police have also arrested eight people who were working at the company called Chem Pharma Company and are likely to press charges against them and the owner of the company Mr. Bhardwaj. Paperwork showing how the operation worked has also been seized by police and will be used to build a case against the arrested people.
The police are hoping that this raid may also supply information about who is producing the raw materials of the fake Viagra and this could involve many more people being arrested. The police claim that they will be conducting more raids in the near future. It is commonly known that the majority of fake erectile dysfunction medication is produced in India, Pakistan and China and often involves underground criminal organisations which have been linked to terrorist activity around the world.
People who buy fake erectile dysfunction medications are not only putting their health in danger but are also funding criminal organisations who could be using their money for far more illicit purposes than the supply of illegal impotence medication.
