We've written about how using Viagra can improve athletic performance at high altitude before, and now a team who are hoping to conquer Mount Everest will be making use of its oxygen boosting properties.

Mr. David Hempleman-Adams from Wiltshire said that when his team goes up the unforgiving north face of Mount Everest in May they will all be taking regular doses of Viagra. He also said that they would be dining on haute-cuisine as opposed to the usual fare of bland carbohydrates in an attempt to see whether it provided more energy for the body.
Dr George Rodway who has studied the effects of high-altitude medicine at Utah University and who will be with the team explained that the Viagra will boost the oxygen intake that each climber gets from the very thin air because it expands the blood vessels in their lungs.
Mr. Hempleman-Adams said that there were concerns that the Viagra might induce spontaneous and unwanted erections on the mountain which could deter the men from their goal but this would be extremely unlikely unless of course the men were specifically thinking about sex or beautiful sexy woman.
Viagra does not just produce erections on its own and requires physical or mental stimulation in order for it to work. The men will obviously be far more concerned with getting up and down the mountain in one piece than they will be with women and in any case since they are a man only team there will be no women to distract them.
Also accompanying the team will be Mr. Malcolm Walker, the founder of the frozen food company Iceland who said that he is hoping to raise £1m for research into dementia.
Viagra is a banned substance for professional athletes because of its performance enhancing abilities. It has reportedly been frequently used by South American football players who have to play at high altitudes.
