In the UK the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Authority is pretty pleased with itself after having secured a conviction of the boss of one of the largest organisations selling fake versions of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra over the internet. Mr. Martin Hickman from Manchester was living like a millionaire with houses in Spain and Chelsea, as well as driving a Range Rover and a Bentley with personalised number plates when he was picked up by the police and charged with selling and marketing illegal versions of prescription medications.

Prosecutors said that his company had made a profit of over £1m annually over the last few years and that he was selling fake Viagra to individuals all over Europe. The products were designed to look like the real Viagra product but were completely illegal. Not only this, but no doctors were involved to issue prescriptions to people applying for the medication and therefore evidence was brought forward that he had endangered people’s lives by operating his organisation.
Mr. Hickman was reported as having bought fake versions of Viagra from India and ended up selling many other products such as supposedly herbal and traditional medication as well as sex toys and other sex aids. Mr. Hickman tried to claim that he did not know that the drugs he was selling were fake and believed that he was not in breach of the law but this was thrown out by the judge who said that there was “little difference” between people who sold unlicensed drugs and people who sold counterfeit drugs.
This case should serve as a warning to others out there who think that they will just get a slap on the wrist if they are caught selling fake versions of Viagra, such as Kamagra and Lovegra. The MHRA is determined to get people sent to jail if they break the law regarding the sale of prescription medication and their efforts are bearing fruit. This particular case was started four years ago by undercover agents buying the drugs from Mr. Hickman’s web site and for most of the time he was unaware that his organisation was being watched.
Legal organisations like Ukmedix support the efforts of the MHRA in closing down these illegal websites which do so much harm to the image of the online pharmaceutical industry.
You can buy legal medication with a prescription online from reputable companies like Ukmedix which only deals with licenced UK pharmacies and allows you to check the veracity and legality of the your medication using the Pharmacheck System.
