The famous Habsburg dynasty who ruled Spain and a number of other European countries may well have been brought down by the medical problem of male impotence according to new historical research.

Gonzalo Alvarez from the University of Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain says that from looking at family trees and old documents which reported on the health problems of King Charles II it is likely that he suffered from pituitary hormone deficiency as well as distal renal tubular acidosis which would have greatly increased the chances of him suffering from sexual problems.
The researchers said that while an occasional marriage between say first cousins is unlikely to be dangerous, when intermarriage becomes too common genetic deficiencies are magnified and eventually become very noticeable. Unfortunately in the case of the Hapsburg family the intermarriages were so frequent that by the time King Charles II was ruling Spain he was a physical wreck.
Despite being married twice he produced no children and this is almost certainly because of his sexual problems. In fact documents show that his first wife complained that he suffered from premature ejaculation and his second wife said that he was completely impotent at the age of 29. Good sexual function is almost always directly related to good health and the fitter that you are physically the more likely you are to maintain good erectile function throughout your life.
Poor King Charles II didn’t really have much chance considering that when you look at his ancestry nine out of eleven marriages were conducted between first cousins or between uncles and nieces. What is probable however is that the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra could have been very useful to King Charles II and if they had enabled him to produce children they would have changed the history of Europe.
There is no doubt that since the arrival of impotence drugs hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children have been born whose existence was greatly helped by one of them.

Shows that being a King and having cash doesn't make you happy. I bet he would have given up all of Spain for a good boner..

this is a truly idiotic story. carlos II's genetic problems were so immense that we should be thankful that he left no direct descendants rather than speculate what he could have wrought upon europe if the little blue pill had been available. another factor in his "impotence" - which is seldom discussed publicly - is that the imbecile did not know or was not enlightened as to which of the orifices required his input for successful breeding. (anal sex being a common, if hush-hush, method of birth control at the time). before you write another story such as this, extolling the blessings of modern medicine, you would do well to consider the historical context, not just the superficial "facts".
