Fake Viagra Seized All Over EU

the most common fake medications are fake erectile dysfunction drugs

The recent campaign initiated by the European Union in collaboration with Interpol to crack down on the sale and manufacture of bogus erectile dysfunction medications has been extremely successful according to the EU Executive Commission. They said that they had in all seized almost 35 million fake tablets in a carefully coordinated initiative which involved all 27 members of the European Union.

Fake Viagra Seized All Over EU

The campaign which started in October involved customs officials intercepting millions of tablets of fake Viagra, fake Cialis and fake Levitra as well as a lot of other prescription medications which were imported illegally into the EU trading block. For example in one single raid customs officials in Brussels seized 2.2 million prescriptions tablets for malaria and pain relief.

It is not commonly known in Europe that there is a big problem with fake drugs being circulated and most Europeans think that fake medications are something which are found mainly in third world countries. However in recent years the internet and spam e-mail have allowed the criminal organisations that produce these medications to make direct contact with European gangs. By far the most common fake medications are fake erectile dysfunction drugs because these can be sold on the black market to men who are afraid or embarrassed to go to a doctor to talk about their erection problems.

The EU Commission explained that most of the illegal drugs were manufactured in India, China and Pakistan and by speaking to experts on smuggling and learning about how the criminal gangs operated they were able to locate the likely points where the illegal drugs were entering the European Union.

The lack of control between individual borders in the European Union has allowed the free movement of bogus erectile dysfunction medication among member states. This has meant that when a criminal gang identified an external EU border which was weak they were able to infiltrate all the EU countries. Recent changes and better coordination between member states however have been producing exceptional results and putting a lot of criminals behind bars.

This was exceptional work and is a first in terms of co-ordination.

People the threat of fakes when it comes to medicine is tantamount to murder in some cases...
