Dog Given Viagra

the Viagra had not created any embarrassing side effects

In an extremely unusual case a pet dog has been saved from almost certain death by being given a prescription of the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra. Bentley, who is a Springer Spaniel, was suffering from lungworm in his pulmonary arteries and this was causing his heart to shut down. Pulmonary arterial hypertension can be treated in humans with Viagra and so his quick thinking vet Ben Harris decided to try and save Bentley's life using the same treatment.

Bentley is extremely lucky to have been saved as hundreds of dogs die a year from the parasitic disease which is often spread by slugs and snails which dogs sometimes eat. The parasitic larvae of the molluscs then spread to the all important pulmonary artery next to the heart and lungs causing shortness of breath and eventually death. These is not the first time that Viagra has been used to help dogs suffering from heart problems and clinical testing done with dogs shows that the Viagra drug can actually prevent heart attacks too.

David Roach who is the owner of Bentley said that he was pleased that the Viagra had not created any embarrassing side effects!  He explained that fortunately Bentley had been neutered at an early age and therefore had no sexual drive and therefore the Viagra would not have an effect on Bentley's erectile function.

Mr. Roach explained that Bentley would probably have to take Viagra for the rest of his life in order to live like a normal healthy animal. It is unclear how Mr. Roach will be able to get a continuous supply of Viagra for Bentley as he will have quite a problem when he explains to the local pharmacy that it is in fact not for him but for his dog!
