The new search engine from Microsoft called Bing has come under fire after it appears that they have accepted money for sponsored links from companies who advertise prescription medications illegally.

According to a report by the company Knujon which specialises in shutting down spam web sites almost 90 percent of the sponsored links to websites with prescription medication were to sites that broke laws in the United States. Knujon went as far as to explain that these websites were not involved in small “violations of pharmacy law” but they were “wholly fraudulent” and run by “criminal networks”. They also explained that the medication that these websites sold were counterfeit, sometimes addictive and no prescriptions were asked for which could lead to serious abuse.

In all fairness to Microsoft and Bing they do require online pharmacies who advertise with them to abide by the law but many of the sites were just fronts which redirected you to other illegal sites which operated from countries like India, China and Pakistan.

There are even reports that some of the big illegal sites are operated by Russian criminal gangs which then use the money to fund more serious criminal enterprises.
