The demand for the influenza drug Tamiflu around the UK has shot up massively over the last week and this has led to panic buying and hoarding in some parts of the UK. At Ukmedix they have decided to therefore restrict the amount of Tamiflu that will be made available to individuals applying for a Tamiflu prescription.

The first reason why they have taken this action is to discourage hoarding. Some individuals had attempted to buy large amounts of Tamiflu which they suspected was not for personal use and therefore for the meantime the maximum amount of Tamiflu available to individual customers on the Ukmedix web site will be 20 pills.
The other concern was that if a swine flu pandemic really does take off in the UK it is essential that as many people get access to Tamiflu as possible and therefore by spreading it thin the chances of more people getting Tamiflu is increased. While Ukmedix has stocks of Tamiflu at the moment if the demand continues to rise they may have to ration it further.
The Tamiflu influenza medication is recommended by doctors as a very efficient and effective way of dealing with not only regular flu but also swine flu and bird flu. It is especially effective if it is taken within 24 hours of symptoms appearing and therefore it is not a bad idea to have some handy.
The UK government has stockpiles of Tamiflu which should cover around 25 percent of the UK population and first priority will go to health workers and doctors in the event of a serious pandemic.
Other precautions to take to protect yourself from swine flu are to get a flu jab, stay away from other people who could have flu and to wash your hands on a regular basis. Eating healthy, getting lots of fruit and vegetable full of vitamin C and a bit of exercise to boost your immune system will also reduce the chances of you getting influenza over the Christmas season.
